A short drive from Hotel Villa Del Pescador is the
ancient Indian Village of Copomos. When you arrive you will step
back thousands of years to a town consisting of one room homes.
Each home is scarcely built with dirt floors and an outdoor kitchen
containing little more than an open flame.
Tours through the village will take you through one
of the typical adobe walled houses. Behind the house, in traditional
outdoor kitchens, the housewife may be cooking tortillas or coffee
over a wood fire or making pottery by hand. The Copomos people pride
themselves on their ornate pottery designs that they create right
here in Copomos by hand and fire the pottery within adobe stoves
around the town.
Children love when tourists come and will rush out
to meet you. Typically the children will wish to show you the dance
of "El Venado." Most commonly this "Deer Dance"
is performed to music played on traditional instruments made of
gourds and on post-columbian guitars and violins. During times of
worship, the local people will wear headdresses made from deer heads
adorned with flowers on the horns.
